Favorite Flasher Combo
« on: Oct 09, 2007, 12:00 PM »
Hello, im new to this site. I was thinking of buying a new flasher combo and was wondering what everyones imput is on thier favorite or what they recomend.  I have seen some Zercoms for a reasonable price. Are they any good. And of course ive seen the vexilars, but they are just soo expensive.  This will be my first flasher rig so i dont need something fancy just something to get me buy on the lake and river.

I have the Zercom RTS. For a budget fishfinder it does the job quite well.

I have heard that the Clearwater Classic is even a step above the RTS.

Watch ebay.

All you have to know is a working flasher is WAY better than none at all. I would get what you can afford for now and then start saving for an upgrade in the future. There is nothing wrong with the low end flashers but I will promise you that after a season or two you will want another one ;) They are like about everything else in this world, ok will do but better is better. Good luck and never look back :o

welcome to the site hennit_seebo. I use a the Vexilar FL-18, but my fishing partner uses a flasher he bought from The Sportsmans Guide. I think he paid around $200 for it and loves it. It is actually made by Marcum and has all the features, but sold under the Sportsmans Guide name.

Good luck in your search.

I say wait, raise up some funds and go with a name brand flasher, watch eaby or other auction/sales sites, with the season fast approaching you will see people upgrading flasher ans selling off the older vex, units...wait, you will be much happier with the product

Thanks for the advice guys.  I think i got it figured out now.  I ended up finding a FL8 SLT for a good price on Ebay.  I got it for like 220 and its a nice unit that is only one year old and has barley been used.  I think i will like it.  I have heard nothing but good things from vexilar.
Thanks again,
Dusty

You'll enjoy the FL-8. It's a very sold unit and you got it for a good price.

be careful near MarCum flashers, my buddy has an fl-8 that's only a couple years old, and he's gotta be at least 15 feet away so the interference doesn't mess him up.
The fishing is always great, the catching however, always isn't

I own a LX-3 marcum and a FL-8 Vexilar. Both work great (though I do perfer the MArcum) and I would not skimp on the flasher. It is a valuable tool that helps you catch fish.   I have used the Zercom units and they work great.   If you can find a nice one, at a good price, get it.    :D
