OK, I'm bored and can't wait. When do you think you'll be on the ice?  SW part of the state, I'm figuring 12/20 but hope it's earlier. And you?

That 12/20 is not a bad bet. I was on the ice befor Christmas last year for two days then it warmed up.  Chance of a lite frost tonite, at least its a start.

Lol, Man I guess. At least it's only in the 50's today. I would think(hope) to have decent ice by Christmas. If we don't I guess I'll go rabbit hunting.

It's supposed to be in the mid 80s thru the weekend. Will say the 'gills, Perch, Pike and Bass have been up in the shallows chowing down this week.

Not going to wait for ice here in SE Mich, heading to MN for first ice for 10 days up in MN.  Will be heading up and staying the 9th through the 18th.  If we are lucky we will have ice out in the Irish Hills in the begining of January.  Will head to the Upper during one of the breaks this winter though.

My goal is for between Christmas and New Years for large quantities of gills and a nice northern or two.  Any ice before then is a bonus.

Seems like in the last ten years or so.....when we get early ice, we also get a warm period where the ice will actually disappear and we have to start all over again.

I just hope that once it hits, IT STAYS!!!

Rock on,

Icer

If we can get on the ice by Christmas it will be a great start, but two years ago we where on the ice by the second week of December and that was the worst year I've ever had on the ice! If we only fish a few weeks it is still a ton of fun,it would be nice to have some snow this year for a change also.

Hopin' for before Christmas up at the cabin in Ogemaw Co. and shortly after down here in Genesee. Last year thin ice got dumped on with lots of snow up north and I was actually ice fishin' down state sooner than up north.   :( :(

Well its good to back thinking about the upcoming season anyways, hope it comes second week of Dec.  I will travel as far as Houghton Hankock over Christmass time if I have too.  Had to go to Gwynn MI last new years to find Ice.  Great place and great time on the Big Shag.

I went to Gwynn last year at New Years too. I had a ball too. I fished Little Shag and 4 other small ones. Closest ice I could find at the time.
