Live suckers always work well. (2-3inches) Hook through the dorsal fin, this will make it swim better and it will increase your hooking percentage.

DONT THROW THE REST OF THE MINNOWS DOWN THE HOLE AT THE END OF THE DAY!!! THIS HAS RUINED SEVERAL LAKES WHERE I COME FROM!!!!
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

"lake trout" - if available, native lake shiners, or ciscoes, and of course, live suckers. if you use dead sucker meat, make sure you strip off the scales or skin. dont know exactly why, but they prefer the flesh clean. makes you wonder at times, why this would be so.lol grumpymoe

rainbows, smallest shiners that you can get on a small salmon egg hook, browns-medium shiners, nothing huge, nothing too small, brookies-worms and small/medium shiners, lakers-small smelt, med. shiners, suckers

Pieces of nightcrawlers seem to produce better than most anything. Live minnows also work very well. Sometimes mealworms, waxworms, and maggots are great baits for turned off trout. For lakers, pieces of cut baitfish or live minnows are king. Fish rainbows, browns, cutts, and brookies in 8 to 25 feet of water, occasionally shallower. Honestly here in Colorado I catch more trout in 20 feet than 10 feet.
Lake trout like 30 to 50 foot depths. I only occasionally fish shallower of deeper.
Politically incorrect, and proud of it.
