Beautiful fish!   :)  I can imagine how it fought.  If you had a 6" hole, I bet it was tough getting her through!
That crappie dwarfs my 14 3/4" and 2.2 lbs.  I'm ashamed to mount mine now!

Yep that's a monster! I've only seen 4 that size in the 23 years I've been doing fish taxidermy. All four came from the West Lakes Chain by Rome City in Noble County.

Believe it or not I am finishing one up that is 20 inches, and also from Steuben County. However I don't know where it was caught. I will post a pic here by next week if anyone is interested. I will lay a tape measure next to it for any nonbelievers.  ;)  The guy who caught it has it recorded at 18.5 inches but it is a bonified 20 inches.

I picked it up at the Angler in Helmer -- one of my pick up drop off points. I will drop it off there sometime next week.

BTW for those of you that go into the Angler. I DID NOT MOUNT THAT AWFUL CRAPPIE THAT IS HANGING THERE! I've been trying to get Susan and Paul to take it down but they haven't as far as I know. Just for the record!  :)

Taxidermist1,

Did one of the crappies belong to John Deveau. He caught one there and i think you mounted. And sweeney has one in his basement that someone in his store gave him that i think you mounted also.

Fish TKO,

That name doesn't ring a bell. But I've done hundreds of fish over the years so that doesn't mean anything. I've done some fish for Sweeny but don't remember if I did a crappie for him. He just picked up a walleye I did for him.

That's a fish of a lifetime, but still well short of the record.
4lbs 11oz is the record.

It came out of a private pond.  It seems to me the state records should have to be caught in public waters.
