Everyone seems on Edge???
« on: Feb 12, 2007, 12:18 PM »
I am thinking everyone one needs to take a deep breath and go fishing. We (me included) all seem to be on edge and ready to snap at other members. Is it the shortened season? Are folks stressed trying to meet all of their icefishing goals?

I am fishing...twice a week, sometimes three. But it's not enough.
Will you call my job and pose as a therapist...tell them the only way to cure my state of depression is to send me icefishing for no less than 10 days straight or I might go postal. >:D
Seriously I am not on edge, just having some fun with my chicken egg size brain.  ;D

Its the fact that icefishing is becoming too popular. Way too overcrowded and way too many people wanting to know your secrect spot. Or worse people setting up and drilling amongst your tip-ups as you are setting up and then they argue with you....sorry blowing off steam from this weekend.  :P

I'm a therapist.  $10 a phone call.  I'll even get you a good set of symptoms that'll keep you out at least a week.

$10.00 sounds fair, but I asked for 10 days not 7.
Well 7 is better than nothing I guess, just don't give me a script for any meds I might do something stupid like take my quad up to the narrows on the king.
And no office visits, I'll wind up in the funny farm and spend the rest of my life making jig poles out of tongue depressors and dental floss.

If you just want the kids to get a lot of action all day, the Small Boat Harbor in Buffalo is a great place to go. Most days it's constant action all day. You can catch perch, bluegills, crappies, northerns, smelt, and the occasional trout. Most of the panfish you catch will be small, but you can get a few nice ones. The kids will really enjoy the constant action though. The area is protected on three sides and the ice gets thick and safe. There usually are a lot of people who will give you friendly advice to help you out. The harbor is small enough that you don't have a far walk onto and off of the ice. Just try to pick a day when the winds are not strong, or you may get blown around pretty bad.

definitely that the sport is becoming popular. not so much the fact its becoming popular its more with the people coming into the sport. i was on a lake sunday and was the second out. we set up way out to the other said away from the guy that was first there. we get all our tip ups set up. here comes the posse!!! about another 20 people showed up that day!! and mind you this lake is not big. these people where obnoxious and rude!! every other word out of there mouth was f*** or son of a b****. not to mention all the cigarette buds and empty wax worm containers these guys left out!!!. and this lake is not allowed gas augers but there was 2 or 3 guys out there with them!. i hate to burst peoples bubble but they should definitely look up the rules for the specific lake you are fishing. sorry had to get all the steam out  :D :-X

It's like stream fishing or open water fishing - the fish aren't only in one spot (where the masses go).  Hike an extra mile or paddle/motor your way a bit farther to a location with similar conditions (habitat, flows, bottom structure, etc., and you'll find you're well out of reach of those less willing to make a trek.  Generally, you can find a productive spot and be much more satisfied with it - even on the weekends when everyone and their grandmother is out there.  If not, don't get stressed and bitter about it - you're out fishing, after all.  A lot of folks (especially those newer to the sport - we've all been there and don't deny it) will head towards those catching fish - logical and perhaps they'll learn something.  Granted there are (or should be) boundaries (too close is like having the doctor ask you to cough, again.

I think seasonal affective disorder's hitting us all in one fashion or another, even if we are getting out.......take your vitamins, put the artificial sun lamps in your offices, have a beer or three in the evenings, and get out fishing and enjoy it for what it is!  I can imagine any number of worse situations........

I'm rambling. Take it easy on yourself and others.

Cheers,

I've also seen where someone spreads out 5 tipups over a 200 yard area,  "claims" it, and get annoyed if anyone sets up within 75 yards, even on small waters. Relax everyone, life is short.  Remember, it's supposed to be fun.
