great perch rig
« on: Jan 29, 2007, 12:34 PM »
Tie on a small lightweight jig and put the hook in the minnow's mouth so the point comes out the belly. Let it sit on the bottom. I think this works because the minnow struggles to get upright while the jig holds it upsidedown. Good to set up when you have to go check tip-ups or warm up in the car because it requires no action on your part.

I'm not sure how to detect a bite if you are away, but if you are just fishing it dead stick watch for the line to jump

Call me crazy, but no matter how cold it is, I only wear a pair of thin felt like gloves. That way I put my finger on the line and can feel the bites. When I am gone for a short time I set the hook as soon as I get back, just incase there is a fish on.
