very nice fish  . We had one latched onto a 17 inch walleye in lake erie a couple years ago while trolling we didnt land it , the walleye had both the harness hooks deep :-\  we got it near the surface it was huge never seen anything like, neither had my grandfather who has caught some monsters in his day. What i noticed was the size of the mouth when he let go this 17 inch 'eye basically just swam out and looked small in comparison to the white mouth it was coming out of. once again very nice laker. And i saw the pic of the cusk also very impressive

Older and slower growing fish have a larger head in proportion to their bodies.

Lake trout are quite the predators. Our DNR planted some in a small 371 acre lake here that had smelt and cisco in it. The lakers wiped them out.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Very Nice fish. The biggest one I have ever caught was a 13 1/2 # and I thought that was pretty impressive. I have never been close to one bigger but I know there are some. Nice Fish...

Its amazing how these fish can attack a lure not expected. We troll for muskies with 13" Grandma's in the fall and the trout will attack them when they are shallow.

Actually, caught it on the 1oz. jig hook while helping Sweetie by lifting it out of the hole..Ouch..not all blood on the ice comes
from the laker...some of it comes from the sucker.

Hey jacksmelt and littleold lady,

How'd you guys land the identical fish when one lives in Maine and the other in Alberta? Just looking at your identical avatars! Guess good laker fisherman think alike.  ;)2 Just jealous. Never even been on a lake while fishing that held lakers.

Prairie goat, I think the closest lake to you would be Jackson Lake or Yellowstone Lake up in Wyoming, and worth the trip.  My sister
lives just on the Idaho side of the Tetons, and fishes Jackson..says it is awesome ice fishing.  Also..the avatar is just the Ice Shanty
Laker avatar...am trying to figure out how to do my one personal one, but I am very technologically incompetent.

That 14# you caught recently would look great. Maybe someone can give you a little advice on how to size it. I put my picture up, but when I tried to change it, nothing worked right. Guess even a blind pig gets an acorn once in awhile. BTW how much did the laker today weight?

Actually, Sweetie has found a thread that tells how to size a photo down for an avatar, and we are going to use the 14# one.
His laker was 16 lbs, 85 cm. long.  And it did not want to budge from the bottom..just cruised along stripping line from his reel.  And when I saw
the size of its head I knew we had to be careful...guiding its head into the hole..and just when I thought I had the gills it went nuts!!  We do have adventures!!
