Powerbait - What Color / Shape???
« on: Jan 22, 2007, 06:24 PM »
What color works best? Do you use the paste type or preformed? There seems to be a million possibilities on the shelf and wonder if mostly its a marketing ploy!

I used a multicolor paste (red, blue, white) about the size of a bean gobbed on a small jig last Saturday and it worked pretty good on rainbow trout.

Have had good luck with the white paste about the size of a salmon egg
Bring a rag because the paste can get messy

I use it a lot and my favorites are chartreuse, yellow, white, and orange. Make sure you get original Berkley powerbait not the imposters. It makes a difference.

Chartruse, white, and cheese/cheese glitter work great for me. I have caught trout on tip-ups with powerbait. Seems to be a magic bait.

Chart/orange with glitter always does the trick.A nice little ball to cover a size 12 treble.

I buy aprox 30 jars a year of this stuff. I seem to have the best luck with chart, rainbow, yellow all with sparkles. I also love the magnum eggs they can be hard to beat.

I have never tried the paste...I guess I might have to.  I'm quite fond of the formed PowerBait...at this time of year, I especially like the Micro series...many of them are around an inch long, so panfish will go for them, as well as opportunistic larger fish.

This seems to work. Didn't do agressive jigging, but caught most while doing light jigging.
