Tobin Lake walleye (littleoldlady)
« on: Jan 19, 2007, 03:49 PM »
I mentioned on one of the other forums about walleye fishing at Tobin. You stated there must be some incredible fishing there. Here are some pics of some walleye my friends and I have caught over the years. We have caught a few other's over the 10 mark but these are some of the nicer ones. The first pic is still by biggest walleye to date over 11 lbs

I believe this one was over 9

Buddy Merv's over 13

Buddy Kelly's over 12

And for something a little different,a white sturgeon a couple of months ago out on the Fraser

I have noticed many of the biggest Pike and walleyes pictured on IS are from Tobin.  How good is this lake?  Are there many guides in the area or resorts a family could stay and ice fish alone?  I need to try some good Canadian fishing and would like some info.

I don't know about the other's posting but we actually fish the river up and down stream from Niapwin. This is where most of the big fish are caught at least in the open water season. Once the fish move up into the river in the fall they become quite concentrated on the channel edges and easier to find than actually fishing in Tobin Lake. I have never actually fished in Tobin Lake itself but I am sure there are others that have done well in the lake too.(I believe the new ice fishing world record 18.3 was caught last year out of Tobin Lake)

They are some really nice catches, Be proud boys!

How far is this lake from Medicine Hat and would you mind a new fisherman trying his luck?

I used to live in Nipawin in the late 70's & early 80's.  In fact, was the sec-treas. of the Nipawin Northern Pike Festival.  Great fishing on the river between Nipawin & the lake, but, even better along the old riverbed going through the lake.  Largest pike I caught while living there was 28 1/2 lbs.  Best walleye was 12.  My kids caught their first fish on Tobin through the ice.  A close friend(now deceased)who had a business in Nipawin showed me the ropes.  He even lost a wiper arm from his pickup, having tied his line to the arm and using the wipers to jig his hook, while we sampled the liquid from his bottle.  A large pike grabbed the hook and the wiper arm did more tricks than a chimp on dope.  LMAO, even through the fog of the "demon rum", probably because I didn't own the vehicle. ;D

fishstalker, until you have caught a Tobin Lake walleye, perhaps your authority on "weight by picture" should be tempered.  Tobin Lake is the top producer of trophy walleye in North America.  The Catholic parish priest caught an 18.03 lber out of there last winter.  Check it out!!!!  In fact, check out Tobin Lake on the internet.

Well eating a walleye that big you might as well pour a bottle of mercury right into your blood stream. Plus it would be as tasty as plywood!!! Want a trophy get a replica!Eat the 15-18 inchers let these spawn >:( :(

my family had a cabin at tobin for 7 years, every summer you would have a singe day of catching not one but 2 or more walleye over 10lbs, we boated 5 in a half hour one evening over 11lbs
TEAM Saskatchewan: Yes, we have ice in December!.
