Oneida Lake
« on: Jan 17, 2007, 08:23 PM »
Work in Constantia on the north shore.  As of 4:30 pm today the lake is iced as far as you can see in all directions.  Crossed the 81 bridges at Brewerton @ 5 pm and every duck and goose must have been sitting on what is probably the only open water left.  Yesterday the lake was open so this is THIN STUFF.  looking forward to early next week for Oneida.  I am heading up to Red Lake on Friday.  I'm sure there is ice, how thick is the question.  Bringing my gear, I'm optimistic!

Big bay certainly looked inviting this afternoon on the way to work. Its mighty cold tonight ! I hope this weather pattern can only stay a few more nights !

Just be careful on Oneida especially in the main lake there is allot of warm water running into the lake. I'm sure there is a good current down the main channel if we don't have much wind you might be able to get on the main lake by the middle to the end of next week. stay safe and tight lines to all ;D

Definatly not safe yet. If not for my super crayfish powers, I'd be wet :

http://oneidalake.us/uploadpics/albums/userpics/isthatice.jpg

The ice cracked where the snow was, but there was  1" of clear and about 2" of snow ice on top. Plus the fact the marina was froze 1 day ahead of the main lake and bays. I saw snow in the forecast, lets hope its moderate.

Not a good weekend to go. Nobody was on big bay today, and I saw one set of tracks leading to the water  ( and back ), so somebody checked it there.

Well, I figure it this way : If they no longer see me, it's 911 time !

Those ARE Red fox tracks, by the way.
