How big??
« on: Jan 17, 2007, 05:01 PM »
How big does a trailer have to be to towe an 8X8? does it have to be just long/wide as the shack? or will a smaller trialer work and just have some overlapping the sides? if so, how small can you go?

I wouldn't think it's a size thing. I would think it would be more of a weight issue and make sure it's legal width wise also for hauling on the road. JMO

it is generaly rated by wt. the trailer has to be able to handle the load.
if secuered well to the trailer you should do fine. go slow enouph to handle the inersha. a smaller trailer will be top heavy, but if the springs on the trailer will handle it you will do fine. i have seen loads hauled with blocks of wood to deadspring the springs. then it comes down to tire rating. go slow and let traffic pass if there is a need, there is no minimum speed limit. pull aside if there is a need.

the rating of the tow vehicle has to be capable for the load. should be a sticker inside door frame or glove box. basicly the brakes have to be rated able to stop the load.
there should be a wt rating tag on the trailer if its commercial made.
i couldnt imagine a shack weighing more than a half ton. closer tops 500lbs, 8x8 300 at most?

Absolutly no way to determine the weight from the dimensions. My 6x 12 is about 1200 lbs and thats only 8 sq ft bigger than an 8x8. It will depend on what it is made of.

The axle rating  is an important factor as well as the tires ,do a little research on the trailer and figure out if its doable. Good luck.
