West Michigan Ice

O.K just talked a buddy he said one or two nights for some area lakes on that side.  Most of the smaller lakes have been iced over for 2 days now and he's checked a few of them 2 inches he says.

Which West Michigan Lakes are you talking about...most I checked had one inch at best. It might be OK by the weekend if things don't change.

The lakes I'm talking about are Lake Bella Vista(Private),  Ratigan, Maston, Cowden.

this is my first post on this forum. I'm from Baldwin MI. nobody fishing this area yet but we gained ice in the last two nights. i checked a few local lakes this morning and most spots had 2-3 inches of clear hard ice. gonna try to get on  somewhere in the morning with a buddy. any one else fish around here?

hey btrout,
 i have place on l lake, a little south of big star grocery. perch, crappie, gills and an occasional bonus walleye. i was hoping to do some exploring on other lakes up there soon. any that you would reccomend.
 i thought i'd call ed's or king's tomorrow and get an ice report.

i just went out and spudded an early ice lake. hess out baroda has about 1 1/2" one or two whacks with the spud but i could walk on it. probably should be sunday or monday. can't wait to get on it and ice some monster rock bass!!!

I used to fish Ratigan quite a few years ago. I used to go to a private boat livery along the north west side at that time. Where can you get on that lake these days?

I didn't know they had a launch.  We know a guy out there thats how we get on.  But if you can get on it has it years just like every other lake.

I actually fished Ratigan several years in a row (10 - 12), and that was an amazing producer. Mainly a matter of figuring out where they hang at different times of the year. For me September was historically the toughest month to lock in on where they were. Other than that they get real predictable.
