Glass Lake
« on: Dec 27, 2006, 07:41 PM »
I know I read somewhere that Glass lake held Kokanee salmon. Is that true? If it is does anyone have any suggestion on how to catch these boys ;) Is it common to ice them? What works ???(bait, lures dow)

JFlood....the problem with kokanee is they feed primarily on plankton.  They are very difficult to catch in the wintertime.  I think the only reason people catch them in the summer is because the wabbler attracts their curiosity gene.

It is a descent lake to ice fish.  Plenty of pickerel to keep the flags popping.  No real size to them though but if you have kids, it is a good bet.

There's one section of the lake that's deep - from Route 66, far out and way to the left.  I hear the salmon hang in there during the winter and I see folks fishing there, but I've never seen any taken.  I have seen big bullheads pulled thorough though, but I have no idea what they use to catch them....involved Vexs I think.  Perch are plentiful, but small.  Pickeral are around, some are good-sized.

We sight fish for them in Flaming Gorge Res in Wyoming.  During the fall they spawn and get pretty nasty but you can get them to mouth the bait.  They don't take it hard because they are not focused on eating but if you have a dark shanty you should be able to hook a few
