How is everyone passing the time?
« on: Dec 16, 2006, 06:51 PM »
This down time is killing all of us it seems. I am still able to slip out once a week and still catch a few walleyes, blackpowder has a few more days and waterfowl season doesn't end until the 31st.
Who am I kidding...even with these few things to pass time...I AM GOING OUT OF MY MIND

Does anyone have a few more suggestions for me, before I all get certified?

I have resorted to sitting in my Trap with the Vex out, fishing rod in hand and watching outdated Babe Winkleman ice fishing videos. How pathetic am I?

How are the rest of you holding out?

Playing with my 15 week old daughter.  Getting ready for the holidays.  Looking at the ten day on weather channel, and trying to think about my oil bill, and not my tip-ups.

Playing with my 15 month old son, getting ready for the holidays and getting ready to take off (in a few days) to Southern California for a week.

I did get out this morning and gathered my oak leaf grub stash for the season.  It was very successful gathering!

Seems I've been passing the time buying more stuff...I'm going to hate paying off that credit card if I don't get on the ice soon.

Actually I'm sitting here thinking about when I used to ride snowmobiles all the time and ice-fished sometimes. Then we started getting those crappy winters where I would find myself chasing snow and going anywhere to ride, didn't matter how far,I was gonna go no matter what. Finally I said I had enough, sold all my sleds and focused on Ice-fishing...I mean after all, it always gets cold enough to make ice right? No worrying about snow or when the next storm would hit us,just cold, cold winter days that make the slippery stuff.Well it's funny how things seem to repeat themselves, not quite the same but very similar, and now I find myself watching the "forecasts" looking for the next shot of cold air and thinking to myself that wherever that ice forms in NY I will be there no matter how far or how the long the drive is I'm going to be there.I guess I'm just psyched about the up coming season,,got new gear to try, lures to use,ETC.Just have to be a patient it will come and hopefully it's soon, because my wife is ready to toss me out and if I play my cards right it will just in time for the next cold front to arrive   ;) .

I'm still open water fishing twice a week (why not?) - Going out today with Marb for a while. Also been tying a bunch of flies for next trout season and Marb's basketball season is in full swing so I have aching bleacher butt syndrome already.

The ice stuff is ready - it will get here.

Still grouse hunting here in vermont so I'm not getting too crazy.  Maybe I'll get a seamless transition from bird hunting to ice fishing.

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.

I was doing great with the open water, killing the eyes a couple days a week.
And then work got busy around the 10th, now I'm just hoping I can get caught up before the ice gets here.
I know it could be two weeks for ice but that still might be cutting it close for me, and I'll be a ticked off camper if work keeps me off first ice. :'(
On a side note, got the new runners put on the yukon, picked up a new quad  , and bought some more lures from cabelas. ;D

Wow it's almost getting repetitive on this thread with people spending too much money because they are not fishing.

Just topped off the Lund with another 32 gallons of fuel and plan on running her as long as I can   From the looks of it the open water walleye slaughter will continue for another week or two ;D
Heck the way things are going you will be able to use her on some bodies of all winter, winter, that just don't sound right for these balmy temps...52 degrees at 2:00am last night on the ride home from work.Could of picked crawlers last night(they were out!)but didn't have the ambition to do so.How did you guys make out yesterday?
