Eskimo Mako Sticky Throttle
« on: Dec 12, 2006, 11:40 AM »
Anyone else have this problem? It is getting stuck sometimes in the open or closed position.
Worked perfect all last year, so I'm a bit disappointed. I sent an Email to Ardisam and am awaiting a response.

Never had trouble with that, but you can bet you'll get a response from Ardisam. They are great customer service-wise  ;)

Sounds like some lube is all that's needed or maybe a new spring .

I have a Mako and the throttle has always worked fine. Gas tank was trouble at first but Ardisam took care of it with no problems.

I called them and they gave me a few things to look at. I wonder if there is moisture in the cable housing that is freezing up when it's cold.

You could also check your carb. I have a strikemaster and had the same problem. The carb was gummed up. Get some carb cleaner and clean it out. Also check your cable and spring if there is one.

Mine froze from moisture one time and a little lube cured it. My fault though, I left it out in the rain in the truck, the next day it got cold.......

JigAwhopper had the same problem and he lubed with WD-40 ---- Don't do it. I recommended a firearms lubricant that I use ... it's pour point is around -46 F. After he lubed the cable (WD-40) it worked fine in his garage. When he hit the ice at 15 degrees the cable locked up solid.  ::)
