Is anyone else starting to freak over the new extended forcast??

the highs for Dec14-19th are not looking good  even the lows are above freezing

Thursday, Dec 7
Low: 16 °F
High: 38 °F

Friday, Dec 8
Low: 24 °F
High: 28 °F

Saturday, Dec 9
Low: 25 °F
High: 37 °F

Sunday, Dec 10
Low: 28 °F
High: 42 °F

Monday, Dec 11
Low: 32 °F
High: 43 °F

Tuesday, Dec 12
Low: 35 °F
High: 46 °F

Wednesday, Dec 13
Low: 33 °F
High: 37 °F

Thursday, Dec 14
Low: 31 °F
High: 44 °F

Friday, Dec 15
Low: 29 °F
High: 43 °F

Saturday, Dec 16
Low: 33 °F
High: 46 °F

Sunday, Dec 17
Low: 34 °F
High: 49 °F

Monday, Dec 18
Low: 35 °F
High: 50 °F

Tuesday, Dec 19
Low: 31 °F
High: 48 °F

Wednesday, Dec 20
Low: 26 °F
High: 42 °F

Thursday, Dec 21
Low: 22 °F
High: 38 °F

Obviously this will change again before it gets here hopefully to colder. But if they are forcasting 50 degree highs now then you know  the actual weather (no matter how many times they change it) will probably not be below freezing for highs

Same up here FK...we're forecasting highs in the 40's through the 14th or 15th of the month and lows barely below freeezing.  The water around here is still above freezing and we need some good cold weather, the full moon phase is past for this month already and the old timers tell me that if the bay isn't at least starting to close up by the full moon phase for December then we won't be on local ice until at leats January.

We did have some skim ice on the shore edges a couple days ago...but the 30 MPH winds yesterday, coupled with the temps at 40 took care of that.....what snow we got 2 nights ago amounted to 6-12 inches, and the rain took care of that as well, all we've got up this way is a waterlogged sloppy mess..............Esox

This winter is shaping up to be worse, ice wise than last year.According to the heating degree days this season,so far we are warmer this heating season up to now than last year. This year here in the catskills we have not had any measurable snow at all.We usually get about 8 to 10 inches by now.The 15 day forcast is for above average temps. except for this friday. Are these the kind of winters we can expect in the future ? I was looking at the Accuweather web site today and they said it looks like 2006 will be the 5th warmest year on record. 2005 and 1998 are tied for the warmest. On the same web site I read that this fall was the warmest in the U.K. since they have been keeping records, which is 347 years. They also said that the 10 years from 1996 to 2005 was the warmest 10 year period since the 150 years that records have been kept. I do not want to sound like an alarmist , but the reality is that an obvious trend towards warmer years ( including winters ) seems to be happening. For those that love ice fishing, myself included, this is an ominous trend.

He he he

Everyone keeps saying El Nino for this winter.  The truth is the Farmers Lmanac predicts a brutally cold winter.  In fact, one of the coldest in recent years.  It's still only DEC. 07.  Hopefully we'll get a cold snap.  I don't think you can predict the weather anymore than 72 hours in advance.

It's gonna be damn cold tonight and all day tomorrow.  That might get a coat in a few places.  It's only 18 here in Honeyoye right now.

It's 14 right now.  I would love to see the South end of the mighty Honeoye get a coat and keep it but it might be a little too windy for that.  Hard to say.  I would rather see no ice form then see it freeze only to thaw in a couple days.  When that stuff happens it seems it takes a lot for it to lock up again.   :-\

Just remember last year the lake locked up early then once January got here it warmed up and a bunch of lakes opened up and did not re-freeze. I would rather have the temps be a little higher now and much colder in January.

11*F and blowing hard right now.  Everyone knows that the only way to tell what the weather is going to be like is to wait until it gets here and deal with it.

Pray to the ice gods!!!  :angel

Beg Santa!

And if all else fails move north... ;D

I am waiting.. not patiently.. but waiting none the less.

I hope the wind blows this snow away fast and the deep freeze bites before it warms during the days.

Cold nights and elevation could keep the ice gods rockin!

Optimistic ya might say?

Robb

This is true but the sooner the better.  A lot of people, like myself, have found fishing to be HOT at first ice.  However, if first ice is late ice then it's not so hot.  If the lake does not freeze until after the first of the year I seem to find that fish are already in their winter patterns by then.  So the lats thing I want is late first ice.

It looks like it will be a while though.  After tonight, it is not supposed to get below 31 at night for the next 8 days or so.   :-\

Holy cold this morning 8 with a nasty wind. Passed on a six point at twenty yards he was kicking the snot out of a spike and both were courting a mature doe. Hope this cold comes back before long. I've got two doe in the freezer so looking for swamp monster. Need some surf though.

Up to the Saranac Lake area.  Doesn't mean there isn't good ice on some small ponds, but the bait shop owners weren't aware of any.
