21 degrees and falling here in Saranac Lake...getting a lot of snow right now thought that could mess ice formation up.

silly question but do lower temps accelerate ice making. In other words does 10 degrees make ice faster than say 28 degrees ???

Snow with no ice won't hurt but snow on top of an inch or two can slow down ice making for sure.

we've got no ice (yet)  but we're getting snow now, good lake effect stuff.....hope after the bay skims over in 2-3 weeks we don't get this.....

Not going to help next week, there's 40's in the forecast.....Esox

Looks like we're having the same pattern as this summer nice for a few days crappy for a bunch. We don't need another winter like last. Didn't even bother coming up your way with all the shifting and breaking up you had. Managed to get out alot but picked where by ice conditions instead of fishing results. Cold here with very little snow. Might be a Madison county winter.

Did some shore fishing here in WNY last night. Could only stay out 2 hours. Had to stop every cast to de-ice the guides and after every 10 or so casts to get the hands in front of the heater. No ice forming on the water though . Temps were reported at 21 at the Bflo airport so it had to be in the teens where I was.

Thats how I fished last year, by where the ice was rather than by where the fish "might" have been.  It sucked..most of the hotspots for pike and the traditionally hot spots for perch were inaccessable....most of the main part of Chaumont Bay was open water last year.....

The old timers are telling me I'm nuts for thinking I'm gonna be on Chaumont Bay before Christmas, the full moon phase of December is almost gone and the bays still in the upper 30's temp wise.....I think  we're screwed even in the shallower bays of C.B. until after January 1st.........Esox

Did you say 3 degrees :o :o. Thats what I'm talking about.  Where do you live akdg? All I'm asking for is that we have safe ice, 3-4 inches, somehere in the southern or central adk's by the week of Christmas. i took the whole week of for vacation and I would be grateful for one road trip up north 8)

As of this morning...the Madison County waters are starting to skim over, with Lebanon Resevoir being the first. If it gets as cold tonight as it did last night, Lebanon should skim over completely ;D
I was on Lebanon with Jighead last year December 15th.
I live right smack in the middle of all these little bodies of water, so you guys will know on a daily basis as to what the conditions will be, as I drive past Hatch and Bradley every day on my way into work.
I smell fresh panfish soon :o
