Fished 2 yrs never had batteries go dead, of course I never had it in low teens in that time. Small cooler and hand warmers maybe.

From the gear report post below.  Weather was -20's

6. Backpack Cooler for batteries:  I bought a $25 backpack cooler that fits 2 drill batteries, 2 headlamps, a battery back (for lights, see #7), 2 marcum panners, marcum recon, & aqua view micro revolution.  Put one of those handwarmer packs in it each day and everything stayed decently warm...and somewhat organized.

$25-30 for igloo backpack cooler from wal mart...may to choose from, that's just the one I chose.

Batteries in general dont like cold ...discharged battery even more so . Keeping them out of the elements as best you can is a good idea . Although I dont experience the extreme temperatures that some folks do  I have on occasion kept them in my libation cooler inside my shelter ..but most days just taking it off my drill and into an outside Jet sled is fine . Some days it just stay on the drill.

That's what I do; small soft-sided lunch cooler. two drill batteries and a hand warmer, seems to work.

Same here.  Fits into a 5-gallon bucket as well.
