Had a good day on the ice
« on: Jan 17, 2024, 06:51 PM »
Found a pond with 8 inches of solid ice and fished for about 5 hours.  Windy and very cold with crusty snow but we walked about 3/4 of a mile and set up shop.   Something like 5 fish iced, a lot more flags but the only bait we found was rather large so probably choaking most of the perch.  Managed a decent pickerel, ok bass and the rest large yellow perch.

Our new smitty sled worked like a charm and made it a lot easier.   My buddy's wife pulled it both in and out and said it was a major improvement over last year.

Did you have her clean your fish and cook them for you too?

No actually we let them all go.  When she started going with us, she complained it interfered with her workout schedule, so she volunteered to pull the sled to get her exercise in.  Not sure she knew exactly what she was getting into, but she still insists on puling it.

Good stuff, 8 inches is encouraging. Cold temps headed this way should help out even more.
