The dreaded Red X!!! Drat!!! Let's try this again. btw, this is the auger I still use. And yes, it's from 1968.
Icy Mike, Do you have to lift the "Easy Boy" bit up and out of the hole frequently while drilling in deep ice to keep the ice chips/snow from filling it up? I don't think a blade like that would do a very good job of pushing the ice chips back up and out of the hole. Just wondering...
FrozenMarc,I'd say if your in Anchorage 2 blades are fine, unless your fishing any water with glacier silt! That's were a singleblade auger is so nice for replacement and or sharpening... I used the lazer (dual blade) and loved it, but own a single blade auger due to silty water. Toss up eh! Like AKdan said, a single blade will cut 5 ft. of ice without a problem.
Barleydog,Thanks for the intel, I just happened to have a friend who got a single blade for his birthday and we tried it out today. Nice machine, worked great, but it's a lot different feel from my old Lazer hand crank, seemed to wobble around in the hole, but that's probalby just inexperiance with a new power toy.And thanks to AKdan for his intel as well. Hopefully I'll soon be with the rest of the gang with a power auger!Tight lines!Marc
