You count your years by the Winters.

It’s not being Cocky if you can back it up.

Concord has lots of small ponds, I can think of a half-dozen off the top of my head that would likely hold shiners.  Why not just go out and explore?

I dono about sensitive, I live nowhere close. But how is it not stealing a spot? It’s Litterally taking and not putting back. There isn’t a way around it. Resources do have limits. Buying some is a great idea.

Used to be a guy who sold shiners out of his garage in Penacook. Not sure if he's still there.

I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Seriously, unless a close friend or relative has a spot to share, you're not going to get anything that way.

Now is the wrong time for prospecting for bait ponds. In my experience the best ponds are the smallest. Like chuck a rock all the way across small. Any pond like that is frozen now. Cutting holes blind to look for bait is not easy.
Next year scout your ponds ahead of time.

There's been a bunch of posts about this....use the search feature.

You really want to be trapping before the ponds ice over.  It can be done thru the ice, but generally even the shiners slow down (vs. late fall).

Like mikez said, you want small ponds or beaver ponds or fire ponds or damned up streams w/ low flow (some flow is OK, even good - but not raging current).  Anything that doesn't dry up in summer can be good.

Try 3 or 4 near you next fall, I bet you find a good 1.  Just need to put in a little time + effort.
