I think I have Fort Peck ADHD
« on: Dec 15, 2022, 06:55 PM »
The last three years Ive done one big trip each year to fort peck. The first year I went to crooked creek, then the last two years I've gone to hell creek. Going again this year mid January as it seems like the weather has been and will be quite cold so thinking there may be some decent ice by then. Anyhow, Im really trying to focus on catching more walleye this trip. The last two years at hell creek it seemed like all we could catch were endless amounts of Pike. The year we went to crooked creek we went about 7 miles down stream and camped for a few days. That trip was mostly a bust, all I caught was one small walleye.

This go around were debating going to either the duck creek area or devils creek/ fourchette. Anyone have any imput on which might be better if were hoping to focus on walleye? I think were leaning towards devils creek as long as we can get in there because the ice might be better? Also any ideas on the likelihood we would be able to ride the atv over north to Fourchette bay area? Thanks!

Devil's is a good idea, but like you said, as long as you can get in there. If I were to go from there to Fourchette in the winter I would take a fast snowmobile and fresh undies. Once in Fourchette bay you can expect to have a similar experience to the one you had at Hell creek.

If you go in at Devils Cr, you better make damn sure the road is ok once you hit the “Breaks” part of it.

Fished Devils creek once, road can be horrible.
With the lake low, watch for mor exposed gas pockets and springs.
I will never fish Devils or Fourchette again.
I would fish Hell Creek or the dam when it freezes,
Nelson and rock creek are also good.
Stay safe and good luck

Forchette, bad ice, open pockets, poor fishing.

yeah that is definitely true. Ive hunted out there for many years and have had some wild experiences with the weather. Ice fishing it seems like a whole different beast though.

I have had great open water fishing in fourchette bay, Crooked creek treated us well ice fishing a couple years ago, but it is a mud hole now. One thing the "breaks" has taught me is bring extra everything. The experience is worth it, rugged harsh country that tests your ability daily.
if you're too busy to go fishing, you're too busy
