theres  bass in some of the  ponds

According to the regulations they are open to catch and release fishing all year, but ice fishing isn't allowed. There is some ice fishing open on some Long Island waters.

Thanks!  Good to know, as I almost tried it on my last visit when my flight back home was delayed.  Instead I fished Passiac in Newark.  Do the pike always bite good there?

no pike but lots of pickerel on long island ......big blue gills and some decent perch .....you want to look up the regulations on every lake (pond) your going to fish on long island limits on blue gills and perch are generally 15 on long island  ....catch and release only inside new york city (fresh water)
