Lake Mousam
« on: Feb 06, 2022, 08:03 AM »
Hey y’all, I’m pretty new around here and am actually out on Mousam right now going after trout and salmon and such. We’re in the lower part because that’s where the public boat ramp is and are fishing off the deeper part of the big island. Weve caught three pickerel so far and was wondering if anyone had tips to avoid the pickerel. Is it just because it’s shallow in the lower part of the lake and the bottom is weedy over here? Is the upper part of the lake better?

Haven't fished Mousam in over 15 years but in my experience, you'll generally get fewer pickerel in less weedy areas on any body of water.

look for more rocky structured bottom less weeds if your targeting salmon try deeper water with yer traps set below the ice should see far fewer pickerel in deeper water, by the way if you catch a larger pickerel usually towards 22'' and bigger they are easy to filet without bones and taste great fried
