Fished Caspian yesterday, 3” solid black ice, 2-3” white ice on top of that.  Nasty day but looks like we picked the right day looking at the wind today.

Was this in the middle or on the edges ? Thanks for the info!

We fished the edges just N of Birch Point, out to 36 FOW.  I did see a shanty out by the reefs, not sure I’d venture out there yet!  Forecast looks perfect for ice making.

Ice should be good after your 14 day quarantine....
My passion for fishing and hunting, I owe to my Father and Uncle Art. RIP Art Rye, I will cherish all the days on the hard water we spent together and all the days in the woods. Miss you...

How has the bite been up there? I’m looking for perch—thanks.  @)

Are the conditions decent to get around by foot?

Plenty of ice for traveling by foot. I went two days in a row last week. The first day 5 of us were out for 8 hours and didn't even hook a laker. Just a few chases and bumps. The second day I was out for half a day, walked 3 miles, and marked maybe 3 lakers. Can't speak for perch, but I saw almost no fish on my finder either day. Usually Caspian is pretty hot this time of year so maybe just a couple unlucky days.

Thanks for the report. It’s great to hear from the fishing community ;)

I ended up heading there today to poke around for a bit (2/6). Put the cross country skis on and headed out from the beach access and hauled my sled to the sunken islands—nothing. Checked the saddle and the flats in the cove—nothing. I didn’t mark a single fish. Time for plan B—Elligo.

During my bee line back to the access I spoke with several fisher folks that had similar reports. Nobody was marking a blip.  :(

Elligo produced—Perch. Medium sized at first then the honey hole arrived as it was time to get off the ice—jumbos. They showed up in 8’ of water at around 3pm.

The conditions were hard to get around. Snow covered slop.

How much ice is on Caspian right now?

There was a solid 10 inches about a week ago.
