Free to good home!
« on: Oct 16, 2006, 04:32 PM »
I obtained this old power auger a few years back.   It ran great here at home, then I went to try it out at Silver to see how it cut ice.  Two pulls on the recoil and the recoil broke.  Me and recoils DO NOT get along so I never really did anything with it after that.  I have no need for it anymore, but if anybody in the area would like to tinker with it, please take it.

Looks to be an 8" and it is an "Ice Master".

You can pick it up at my house (about 8 miles north of Silver Lake) or we can meet sometime after ice up somewhere.

I want nothing in return, but if you insist on buying me a few cold ones, you could probably twist my arm!!  LOL!

wnybassman,
I was hoping that is was some of that AWESOME Maple Syrup that you make.  My daughter (she is three today as a matter a fact) still asks for it.  She apparently got a liking to your stuff last winter after my wife and I put some of your syrup on her pancakes..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

If nobody else has claimed it yet, I'll pick it up. Fixing things is what I do. Let me know if you happen to need some minnows.

Thanks for the replies and PM's guys.  The auger has been spoken for (by crayfishbob) and we made arrangements for him to get it.

Just cleaning out my barn and getting rid of things that haven't been used in a while (or ever)

The auger made it to crayfishbob last night.  Looking forward to seeing the pics of it in action!

My Great Great Uncle had one of those, he just passed away Friday, and when we would go ice fishing together he always said that "This auger will out-live me"

Well he was right :'(

The auger will now get put to good use in my Grandpas hands. ;D

Hey- thanks ! This thing is like new ! The paint does not even have a chip on it ! I got as far as removing the recoil and found that the compression is good. I was chacing bait all day, so I could not finish working on it.
Thank you,  wnybassman . Hope those cold ones got to thier destination !

I messed with the auger for about an hour today. It had a gas leak, and the recoil spring broke, but I repaired that too. Finally, as I promised here it is :

Cray:  By the sounds of it you still need a good small engine man to take care of it.  :)  Adjust the high speed needle you'll be all set. Have you still got my old one?

Yes, I do, Hank. The gas cap fell off it the first year I had it, and then the case broke where the recoil is and coil broke. I put a cork in the gas tank, then twisted the coil wire back on to the now exposed coil lead. I drilled hundreds of holes with it. You know, that was 25 years ago when I bought it from you.

We better go out fishing soon while we still can.

Good to see you got the old girl going!  I was given the auger by a guy that lives on Honeoye, and his family has had that house since the 30's.  I imagine that is where she spent most of her life drilling holes.

Any time Bob. Ice up here is a little wishy with the snow we got. Gettin to old to take a bath in in ice water I'll give it a few more day's to setup.    25 year's ago. Och.  But your right. Before you got it it drilled as many, and I'm still using it's twin.   :o
