should I clean my lures/jigs?
« on: Jan 19, 2020, 06:19 PM »
I'm consolidating all my lures, and both they and the box smell, the bucktails are gunky etc.

Now I'm guessing most of this is from old bait, worms, attractants, etc. from past seasons. Does it make sense to clean them? It's a mostly organic smell, but I don't want to assume that nasty won't turn them off just because it's not human or chemical.

I have some berkeley scent removing liquid soap that I would probably use.

Thanks!

Wow. First your shanty has an odor now your jigs? Just soak 'em awhile in the same solution I recommended for your shanty...baking soda and peroxide. Maybe in some vinegar first.

Leaving old bait on small jigs would tend to gunk up the hooks making it harder to hook fish.

Soooo... your hut is nauseating and your tackle box stinks?   I really don’t have a suggestion for ya at this point. Good luck with that!

A couple drops of anise oil in storage boxes with solve it. I put it on a gun cleaning patch. The anise oil doesn't effect the fishing....h2l

That's where the old toothbrush comes in.  I use it to clean a few things.  Good for reels too.  A few brush and most dirt are off.

Bait that has escaped from it's container and crawled into the corner of the lure box.  ;D
