Ice?
« on: Jan 13, 2020, 06:38 AM »
Anyone know if there’s any fishable ice in SNH? Looking to get out for a bit today.

I like the part that says, "You beard can also freeze on the ice and save you."

That must be why so many ice fishermen wear beards - like a free life preserver.

Thats terrifying. I think I'd prefer to drown.

Edges were fine around my stomping grounds, its the swirlers out in the middle that'll get ya. I was watching a spot Saturday morning near my setup where 3 cracks came to each other tightly at 5:30, by noon there was an oddly shaped drain hole big enough for a winter boot, I'm guessing by yesterday evening it was at full man hole status... Spud in hand is gonna be a must for the next little bit...

You certainly look like you would be safe in freezing temps on the ice, based upon the posted notice?

When we use to smelt fish on the coast (when there was ice) . Guys would plank 12-16 feet to get over the edge and on to safe ice.

Captain Black knows a thing or two about walking on a plank.

How's the ice they all ask? "I’ll tell you what, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s butt, but I’d rather take the butcher’s word for it."

True. I remember planking 12 or so feet to get on. The worse part was coming out the shack at low tide at 1 a.m. and having to climb back up that damn plank...lol

I once thought I was being smart using a extension ladder to reach out to the ice and then setting traps in between the steps for Rainbows when I was around 17 years old, warden came and told how that was a bad decision. Really good guy, I removed the traps and 2 ladders and he said just not again. Lesson learned

That would have been an interesting fight if you got a big one and had to balance on the ladder while fighting the fish.
