Closest place with ice?
« on: Jan 09, 2019, 11:15 AM »
I moved to Amesbury, MA earlier this year and looking for some places to ice fish. Back years ago I hit up Upper Artichoke- if I remember only upped up some pickerel . Is Gardner Lake or Lake Attitash any good? Obviously willing to drive a reasonable distance for a day on the ice but looking for some decent local spots to frequent.

cheers!
Dan

Not much ice available in the North eastern mass area yet, but when it freezes up, Johnsons,  Rock pond, or Pentucket  pond in Georgetown are all popular spots within a short distance from Amesbury
Good Luck

Pretty close to NH. Plenty of ice there.

Attitash is fun fishing. Never been to Gardner so can't give an opinion on it.

Check out a good map and the state's F&G website (MA and NH) and check out their respective list of pond maps.
The maps will give you depth info, whatever access is available and what fish were last found there based on most recent fish survey.

You will only be limited by your distance you will travel and whether of not the ice is safe (for you).

Good luck!
