Are you aware that if you land a fish and you have him in your hands out of the water(lets say for a picture etc.)and all of a sudden he wiggles out of your hands into the water so you quickly pick him back out of the water before he gets away, that you can be charged.I watched on TV that it acctually happened to a fellow down east.wow

While we are on laws I was wondering is dip-netting for suckers legal or illegal in Sask.? :-\
I was not sure on this as suckers are not considered game fish.
If it is legal can you dip net for suckers any time of year or only in the regular fishing season? ???

You can get a permit though I believe for netting suckers. I believe the permit is good for a set amount of time and pounds of fish.

That's B.S.

I believe suckers are no good.  All they do is eat the eggs of other gamefish like Pike, Walleye and perch.

Seriously? You would be completely wrong. Suckers eat mainly insect larva, crustaceans, and other small organisms. Any amount of eggs that they eat would be minimal. They are healthy for a water body as they provide a fatty source of forage for pike, walleye, etc..

Sorry Fishnut, I have to agree with JJP. Contrary to myth, suckers don't solely eat sport fish eggs. And as far as obtaining a permit, Sask Environment issues sucker permits for $5 which allow you to dipnet suckers in the spring.

While we're on the topic, have you boys and girls ever try eating canned suckers. WOW. If you like canned salmon, lookout. You Ukrainians out there know what I'm talking about.

They smoke up good too.  I know a guy that used to get that permit and net them at the trestle at Kinookimaw in the old days.  I thought it was $25, same as the bait permit though.
The problem with quotes on the internet is that they're difficult to prove.
