Yes, these folks here are costing me money for fun.  I had to go buy the auger conversion and now looking for a cheap frisbee to function as auger saver...
Use one of the wife's aluminum pot lids, I did.

Found my old frisbee and it's only 8.25" and my drill is 8".  Okay, no frisbee, but I did find a lid to go with the plastic bucket.  I cut hole in lid, attached to auger and why it only slides down to the flighting.  As luck would have it, I have some pipe insulation and cut some of it, split it open, put onto shaft of drill, some duck tape and done.  Then of course I go put the drill adaptor part in.  I notice, there's a little groove spot on that.  Could've I just slit my cover into that spot?  ???

Of course now, checking online auger accessories, and poof...they did made such a thing for such a thing.  ;D  8" won't do for me though.

adventure is fun...still waiting on battery.

Thanks I haven't found a good conversation formula.  I think the info I found was 950 or something like that.

go to dewalt europe. they use the newton meter measurement. convert the nm to inch pound. max is 840 inch pound.

Agree or disagree! That's fine 😅 there is nothing wrong with gasser. I really like mine. Although I'm going to sell it if this drill thing works out 😬

what else can you buy with lifetime warranty for less money that will turn the 6"? wouldn't you use it off season? maybe you would like to try a bigger auger some time.

I have a Stike Master 40v  and Nils 6" hand auger. Thought I would convert the 6" for a lighter weight option to chase pan fish.Your thread got me thinking to convert the Nils.

Any down side with going with this drill with my set up? I think bigger is better.

think about it this way, if the load is less on the motor and battery, it should drill more holes per charge, not slow the motor down as much (if any), can handle dull blades better (save money by not needing to keep them as sharp saves money and save some stress on you worrying about it) and can turn any hand auger made for ice. then you have the off season uses for it. the battery will fit any tool ridgid makes, so you can shop bare tools and have more uses for them.
i have 5 ridgid drills. their 750 inch pound would be fine with 4 amp battery with the nils in 6 inch. you might go thru more than one battery if you like making holes. so price out their two 4amp battery and 750 inch pound drill and charger. it should cost more than this kit, so your saving money up front. this being 9 amp will power tools longer than two 4 amps batteries.
so there are a few reasons to go this route. can't think of any reason to go a different route.

Thanks 3300 and thank you for sharing this thread. I don't need to convert the Nils since I have the SM 40 volt, but a lighter set up would be nice. My only concern was too much torque and it would spin my like a top at break through with this smaller auger.

you'll be fine with any drill that is 600 inch pounds or more and 4 amp battery or more. this is a great deal to pass up on and more so if your not stuck in a different brand tool already. the strongest fuel is 4 oz less than this drill bare tool.

here is a fellow  member with this drill on top of the 8 inch nils. he is not wearing cleats or screws in his boots and has zero trouble on break thru. the thread gets tossed around a little but still talks about this system.

That's the strike lite auger.  8" with the plastic flighting.  of which a part of the flighting had cracked off and it's just glue'd epoxy together.  I probably needs some plastic support sheet to ensure it will stay, but it's glued now.

Oh no, that wasn't it.  It's because I forced it on the uplift and the flighting broke.  User error.

It was drilling to nicely and decided that I didn't need to clear the ice shaving and slush that day.  The light weight is awesome.  The composite plastic well, it's not steel.

good to know.
i couldn't figure out what you had. looked like lazer, but exposed shaft and short flyte threw me.

sounds fragile tho. there are few other plastic augers out. k-drill has a broken section last year. they sell sections tho. eskimo now has one and waiting to see how they do because they claim to be the lightest on the market.

I actually had the pleasure of drilling a hole with a nils auger. They are very smooth. It didn’t hang up on the bottom of the hole like a lazer auger.

This is probably the most comprehensive review and testing of drills I’ve seen.   Lots of interesting results here from most of the biggest players.   I think Milwaukee, DeWalt, Ridgid, and Makita are probably the most popular on the ice, but it looks like there could be a few more options here too such as Bosch and Ryobi.    Of course these results will only be good for a year or two as we all know how fast the Drill game evolves and data will become obsolete quickly.   It’s worth the watch though I think, especially if you are a numbers geek like me.
