« on: Sep 28, 2018, 02:52 PM »
Got the new Reeds catalog HT has a new holder for just your drill to hold auger or a clam plate style auger looks interesting but I don't think HT has that good of quality it's called the E Drill just thought I would throw it out there as options.

Here's their toll free: 1-800-346-0019. Call and ask for the 2018 Ice Catalog.

Never mind... Found this: https://www.reedssports.com/info/2018-ice-catalog

Interesting. If I read it right, it’s got synthetic flighting for the auger kits for $150ish. Put some Swedish blades on it and that may be an interesting setup!

Hmmm, I bought the nero auger last year and was going to buy a clam plate for it this year, I might have to consider this one now as well. Definitely need to find some more info and pictures of it.

That's a good little catalog there. Kinda wish I needed some more stuff. I'm not sure I understand just what's included in the E-drill kit and what you need to provide other than electric drill power unit. I'm leery about the blades they supply with it simply because since they don't talk them up it makes me think they're probably Chinese. In fact, the thing has a sort of Chinese feel about it anyway. Some of that sourcing certainly has its place but you're rolling the dice when it comes to auger blade steel.
The little Russian Nero kit next door frankly looks more attractive to me. I see they're offering it in an 8" size this year also.
Thanks for the link.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

The Nero is awesome. I bought the 7" last year and have no complaints about it. I run it with a ridgid drill and it chews through ice.

Thanks for the link. I will wait and see if the kit can be had without the auger. I would put my Nero on it instead.

It looks like it's sold separately, below that e drill listing, there is a separate listing for the "Throttle Drill Plate Adapter" for $80. I'd really like to see one reviewed or one on display somewhere. Interested in the quality of the components compared to the Clam.

WOW $80 and the Clam plate in only $69-$79. I guess I will have to wait until someone else buys one and reviews it. Clam plate has been around and does have good reviews.

It doesn't look too sturdy compared to the Clam plate IMO...

And since that Reed's catalog gave me hell trying to use it, I grabbed screenshots for everyone..

Looks interesting, they had to work around the patent some how lol. For that price... at least the extension is included.

On a positive note, the bit looks to have a pilot/centering point.. I'd rather it took flat Mora style blades though, because I can sharpen those easy enough...
