Anyone else concerned about the warm-up coming?
« on: Feb 15, 2018, 06:37 AM »
Looks like some close to 60 degree days next week and a little rain. Anyone think we'll lose most of the ice around the Albany area?

We lost the season last mid February, and it's gonna happen again this mid February. 60 degrees rots/ruins ice in a hot hurry. Maybe Ill crank up the 99 Mustang GT for the first time since October!
Go to Heaven for the climate, to hell for the company!

Have we forgotten about the two 60 degree days we had in January?

Just be extra cautious, wear spikes and spud everywhere. Don’t trust anyone’s judgement other than your own.

The spot where I typically access Lake George is between a dock with ice-eater and a tiny stream.  The ice is already becoming suspect in that area despite the 10" of good, clear ice beyond it.  Our ice fishing days are numbered!

Ice is moving like crazy on burden lakes a ton of water around the edges, still 10" but the edges will go real quick. The end is near in the capital district.

The end is near for most larger bodies of water. Smaller ones will still be good for awhile. The chances of having another cold spell I think are slim.

And it's gonna rain all night tonight too.. Next week it will be near 60 with several nights above freezing and yes.. even more rain. That should do it for the finger lakes anyways I would think. But at least they were somewhat fishable this year.

Yeah, the bigger waters are likely screwed. Small waters should be good for a week or so, unless we get dumped on with rain. Doing my anti-rain dance as we speak.

Planks are your best friend with deteriorating ice conditions. Using your brain is always a must, especially on big water.

Chaumont Bay 16 inches of ice yesterday 2 to 4 inches of snow. teens to twenties end of next week, so I guess we are ok for a few more weeks if normal temps last out the rest of the winter.
