new old fish locator....need help
« on: Mar 05, 2003, 11:07 AM »
so i was walking trough the thrift store when i saw to my supprise a Jetco sea scope fish locator.  It had no trasducer on it so i figured i'd pay the $1.50 and find something on the web.  I cant even find the locator...the company...nothing.  my question, do i have a locator worth $1.50 or should i hold on to it and maybe find the parts for it?

thanks,

MC master

    Madcitymaster,
    Without a transducer you've got yourself a mighty fine paperweight for only $1.50.  If you can find a transducer and get it to work you'll have a sonar unit.  How much will it be worth then, and how well will it work after that is anybody's guess.  If it will show you the depth, you'll have a depth finder.  If it will show you fish, you'll have a fish finder.  If it will show you your jig or your bait, you'll have a real fish catching tool.
    Good luck in your search, but if you don't find the missing transducer save your spare change for a good, high end unit.  I'm partial to LCDs, but the asphalt kid and I are in the minority on that one.

Madcity master,
Try Ebay, sometimes people will post some relic or a piece of a relic on the fishing board.  It's worth a try!  Keep trying and trying!!  I had found a transducer for an older Apelco unit on Ebay, what a find. ;)  Good luck - Barleydog

You can try contacting Airmar, they make transducers and know most everything there is to know about them.

Are you kidding? ::)
Even if Airmar could get him a transducer the unit ($1.50) + the new transducer($ ?) would be worth a 1/10th the transducer would cost at best.
As for usefulness a new $100 unit would be 100 X more effective.
