Japanese Ice Fishermen
« on: Feb 02, 2018, 07:35 PM »
Look at the shelters these Japanese Ice Fishermen all seem to be using. Look to be flip over and guessing the weight is minimum.
Where can I buy one?

Looks like a part of one of those dragons they parade in... ;D

Look to be made of cloth sewn into a tunnel, and hula hoops, open ends...

  • Ice fishing a sport, or just reason to buy stuff?

Sort of looks like a big garbage bag with a frame of wire coat hangers.  I have been to Japan and their houses are not heavily constructed, sort of like a large paper lanterns.

Check out the Ameristep gunner ground blind. I really like it if I'm fishing alone. Low cost, compact, lightweight (4 lb), easy setup and take down. May even use it for hunting someday.

Ha, my father in law and his family have been using these for years. They built them with condiuit and that clear plastic material that is webbed that they use on the outside of buildings during the winter when their renovating exteriors walls/windows.  We make them a little taller so you don't have to be hunched over in them. They fold flat and you can get a half dozen in the back of a truck without a cap. We fish the northwoods of WI and they warmer than you'd think, especially in the sun (little green house)..

Someone needs to make some of those stateside for us hole hoppers. Then again that shelter chair looks a bit more roomy. I’m going to have to look into one of those.

In the 80's I had a shelter just like those.  Forget the brand and what happened to it.  I found it blew around too much when it was windy and I only used it when it was calm, which kind of defeated the purpose of it to begin with.

You don't want to buy one from Japan.
Reason 1. They are for Short people.
Reason 2. It will ship on a slow boat from China.
Reason 3. Add yours here.

But if you really want  one buy one here from Amazon.  https://www.amazon.com/kids-tunnel/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Akids%20tunnel

Reason 1. They are for Short people. Then why is the tallest player ever drafted by the NBA a Japanese guy?
Reason 2. It will ship on a slow boat from China. It took Plano Molding 62 days to ship a part from Illinois they left out of a shelf kit yet I get tungsten jigs from China in 10 days.
Reason 3. Add yours here. Not enough room for all my stuff...  ::)

But if you really want  one buy one here from Amazon.  https://www.amazon.com/kids-tunnel/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Akids%20tunnel

Really lefty? Gotta be careful with generalizations...
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I like the clothing options: Studded tennis shoes, thinsulate fedora, fur-lined hard hat and buoyant lab coat.

I'll take some measurements of mine   They don't blow away could be anchored and there really is enough room to lay down and sight fish

Sort of reminds me of my new eskimo 949i. I just love it but it really isn't a wind shelter after the wind reaches 20 mph. Plenty of anchors help a lot but over 30 and she comes down, hopefully by determination not accident.   Reminds me of a big 'ol hot air balloon.

Try one of those in the upper plains when it's 5* and blowing 30 mph. Uh......no.

It's good!
In Japan, some people make it by handmade. We have a habit of sitting on the floor and fishing, and said it "snails".

There are also commercially available products. Maybe the fabric is nylon, price is about $ 346. Unfortunately, it is not exporting.
