Twin Lakes Trout Fishing FYI
« on: Jan 22, 2018, 03:01 PM »
For those of you who want to ice fish for trout at Twin Lakes this season do not waste your time.

Normally we catch a few if not many each outing. Very few trout have been caught by others. They are far and few between because the state did not stock this fall season. :(  I just found this out by asking questions and by going to the fish commission web site on fall stockings and found that it listed this lake in Westmoreland County as Revised, Place, and Time.

Upsetting to know that I wasted days there persuing trout. At least landing panfish kept me somewhat interested after not locating trout.  I would have went somewhere else earlier if I had known this. Now I will be checking the website each season before I go ice fishing.

OK IM SAYING IT THE GUY THAT USED TO RUN OR IS STILL RUNNING THE TWC HATES ICEFISERMAN BECAUSE WE CATCH ALL HIS STOCKED TROUT. WHY I KNOW THIS IS BECAUSE YOU COULD NEVER FISH TWIN LAKES UNLESS HE/ COUNTY EMPLOYEES GAVE THE  OK.UNFORTUNATLY I HAD A GOOD FRIEND WHO KNEW A COUNTY OFFICIAL HIS BOSS WHO MADE IT THE WAY IT IS TODAY. FUNNY ALL LAKES AROUND WERE FISHABLE EXEPT THERE . FISHED PRIVATE LAKE 3/4 MILES AWAY?. WITH SAFE ICE FOR A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE THEY WOULD EVEN GET OUT TO CHECK SAFE ICE. FOR EVERYBODYS INFO ALL THE BIGGER TROUT STOCKED ARE PUT IN THE UPPER LAKE.SECRETS OUT.HA HA IT IS WHAT IT IS.

There are still a good number of trout swimming both lakes.  They did stock more browns that rainbows however, the browns are a little more picky about what they eat than the bows.  Maybe that's that why you're not catching them.

I've fished the upper lake 3 times this year first time we kept a 2 man limit of trout last two times we each got 4 and I've seen a good bit of trout cought  I will agree tho in general I've found it harder to get good numbers of trout compared to years past

Awesome guys! Thanks for the updates and information. Great to hear they did stock and guys are catching trout. I usually fish the upper lake but have moved to the lower one recently. I like to use minnows but the local bait business closed for the winter and they are hard to find.

I checked the lower lake today after work and I was able to access the lake from the breast.  Spudded out aways and found it was 5-6 blACK under the 1" of junk.   Spoke to  couple of guys and  they said that the bite was slow..

I was on the lower lake yesterday.  The shore was good.  I accessed the lake off the breast near the cat tails.
