Big pike bait near the cities?
« on: Jan 16, 2018, 01:07 PM »
I'm looking to get some large pike bait for an upcoming trip, but I've been striking out at the places I normally frequent (Joe's, Fleet Farm, etc.)  I'm looking for suggestions on places to pick up bait around the cities.  Currently live near Shoreview.

Specifically looking for: Large/medium suckers (live), cisco (dead), smelt (dead), other?

Any ideas where to go?

Bald Eagle Bait on 61? They used to sell big suckers when I fished over that way
Could also try giving Vados bait in Fridley a call or Thorne Bros

Mike's Bait on 8, off Hwy 8 near 35 E, has a assortment of sucker minnows, including large and spearing size.  Not sure if they sell frozen bait or not.  Vados Bait off Hwy 65, just South of Hwy 10, doe have certified VHS free frozen smelt.  The ones I got last year were giants, 9"-10", and fat.

Blue Ribbon Bait over in Oakdale.  Grab some and then head over to Lake Elmo.  Lot of pike over in the shallows on the south end.

Try a Cashwise store if you have one near you. St Cloud sells packs of frozen herring that looked to be at least 6"+.
