Newbie here, was at beavertail pond last weekend and noticed people pulling 5lb+ trout pretty frequently... My question is, where did they stock this pond with trout that size from? Safe to eat? Good to eat lol? Thanks in advance!

Is this the pond right north of the interstate outside of Clinton? I was headed back from Georgetown and saw maybe 8 groups out on the ice and have never heard of it!

I forget where they stock it from, but it gets stocked with some big fish, much bigger than 5 lbs! If you do some research on the FWP site it will say where those fish were raised.
The couple I kept last weekend tasted just fine!

pond is a good time if you don't mind all the people. Caught lots of rainbow and perch. No big perch but perch. Also a few bass in there. Like I said its fun cause its close but lots of people on it.

I've eaten the fish out of there, they seemed just fine to me!
Yea, Saturday was packed by the afternoon. Who knows what this rain will do to it...

Spent 4 hours on the ice this morning... Caught 2 mid twenty inch rainbows, and a couple smaller trout. Good time and only 4 groups on the ice during the weekday! Thanks for the info on the origin of the stocked fish..🐟

Nice, congrats. hopefully this rain won't pull too much of the ice off.

My guess is the bigger fish that were stocked are "retired" broodstock from the hatcheries mentioned above. Fin condition is a dead giveaway, i.e. fused dorsal rays and caudal fins missing upper and lower lobes.

Doubledown is right - those large trout are burned-out brood stock from hatcheries.
