Ice auger blade sharpeners
« on: Jan 03, 2018, 05:46 PM »
Do the blue handled ice blade sharpener really work or a waste of 8 bucks?  Thanks

just buy new blades.  they are cheap, and work much better than resharpened ones

new blades aren't that expensive, and you can send old ones out for sharpen.  i always have by hand but have to be careful. at least have a second set on hand

you can sharpen them w a stone by hand, not too hard to do.  any knife sharpening place will do them to, try mastergrind in rockaway

I agree with the Greek, a stone is very easy to use. I fish Spruce Run a lot and the sandy soil blowing onto and freezing in the ice dulls the crap out of them.

I don't think $40 is that cheap especially when I have 3 different augers.I was never able to sharpen them even with a stone. Its no fun finding out the blades don't cut when you're on the ice.I usually get 3 seasons out of a set and I ice fish alot. Then I just change out for the sharpened ones that I think were like $12 a set.
