Has anyone done any fishing on Mashapaug yet, just curious about conditions?

Looking forward to heading up there myself. Had fun there last year with MRowinsky, but he bugged out for Florida last summer. So when you see his smitty sled out there, it's ME.

Fished Mash Tues, and Wed out past the launch and had 3-4 inches. There was open water in front of the second island and at the far left cove but that locked up Tues night. You should see the new ice without snow cover there. It should be a go this weekend just about everywhere.

Dumb question..... how are we abbreviating Mashapaug?   The Mash, or The Paug.....?

my weather app says it's 2 degrees in Union......TWO degrees..... Ken, not sure if I'm making the hour drive..... might check the ice at Batterson..... 2 miles to the boat launch, but the walleyes are probably at the dam end.... still less than a 10 minute drive, except for the drive to TAGS

I have yet to catch a walleye and I'd like to get one through the ice this year. I ordinarily try for them using fatheads, medium shiners and or 4-5" suckers under a Heritage Laker. While I wait for a flag I jig using either a Jigging Rap or a spoon tipped with spikes or a minnow head. I've gotten some nice perch this way but no eyes. Am I on the right track here? Thanks guys.

Pretty much the right idea. Evening into dark or reverse in the morning are good times, tipup bait a foot or so off bottom. Try a 10-15' dropoff before dark, move into 2-5' after dark. Get tipup lights if you don't have them so you don't need to shine a light. Keep the noise down, they can be spooky.

For jigging, try deeper and jig aggressively. They can move when they want. Don't jig less than 4-5' above the bottom, they'll come up to bite. Tip the jig with a shiner head for smell. Play a little keep away, they like that.

Most of are so called walleye lakes fish better at sunset through into the night, set up 20' to 3' twenty will be the earlyest bite then they come shallow as it gets dark. Hang your baits about 18 to 24"off the bottom Walleyes will come up after food they do not go down and be vewy vewy quiet sit a good distance from your tip ups
