Temp vs Rate of freeze?
« on: Dec 20, 2017, 05:05 PM »
How much does the temperature really affect the rate of freeze?

Are you going to see much difference between 10F and -10F (-12c to -23c)?

I would think it would make more ice at -10 degrees.

The thicker the ice the slower the freeze. Wind can have an impact as well.
There was a chart floating around here at one time.

I'd love to see a day of -5 or colder.

Agreed! From some quick off the cuff calculations, it looks like I'll be right on track for 6+ inches on Tuesday. Gives me a little more confidence (still going to spud the whole way) for my first trip out.

I'll just stick to the 4' spots to start... At least that way the kid can jump in and push me back up on the ice!!  ;D
