How to store “quick tip” rods
« on: Nov 24, 2017, 10:57 PM »
Any advice on how to store and transport “quick tip” rods like the snitch, tickle stick, and st. Croix avid glass?  I store them with the hook on the bait holder and line loose to not have the tip bent and create a permanent bend but they always seem to get tightened in storage.

If the jig fits through the guides I like to slide it through the top two guides so that if the line does tighten it won't be pulling on the soft tip.  Otherwise with my Otter case I push the button on an in-line reel or let the lure hang loose (not on the hook keeper) and the foam holds it tight enough that it doesn't move around to tangle with the other rods.

make you some rod sleeves from pex to keep them safe. a tiny bungee to keep them on.

I've got a Snitch. I use the Cabela's rod sleeve and the lure wrap. No issues in the last 2 seasons.

Cut the line. Store jig in tackle box.  Reel up line and slip it on to the line storage snap on the spool.

Sleeves, tubes, whatever, won't keep your tips from being bent or broken from the reels pulling the line tight.

Cut the lure off the line, or remove the line from the tip, or find a way to keep your reels from moving (loosen the reel handles, push the free spool, etc.)

While thinking about this today I think it could be as simple as pressing the button for the “free spool” on the inline reels once they are stored.  This would work whether they are stored in a bag, rod slicks, sleeve of some type, or on the rod storage holder on the wall.

Someone else mentioned that, also.  Seems like a simple solution???

As long as you find some way to keep it from free spooling into a massive rats nest, it would work fine.
