Last Lakers and moving ice.
« on: Mar 13, 2017, 05:26 PM »
Good day catching a few Lakers Sunday.  Weather was more seasonable with a -1 start.  The wind was kind and held off until later in the day.  The ice was angry and the small ridge we crossed in the morning became a monster.

Morning it looked fine:

After quite a large boom and 6 to 7" shift (at least it felt like it) this happened:

Had to take an alternative route off and drive the truck back over.  Not too bad but we could not find any spot to cross that sucker which is rare with the ice being as thick as it was.  The next time I am after Lakers might be from my boat....

Nice fish. That's enough to scare me off the ice.

Way to stay on the fish.  I haven't fished many large bodies of water so that is cool and scary all at once.

It is somewhat unnerving for sure even having been through it there once this season when the ice first set up.  Good practice though because I still have Erie on my bucket list and I'll want all the weird ice experience I can get.

Question is....one more trip Saturday?

No Bill all ice 8-12" just some water on top near the ridge....will be interesting to see if the edges hold with the snow.

Nice way to end the season!  Was up there with Fishyfishes on tuesday at the narrows, big ridge out there too.  Apparently it has opened up some since then.  Pretty bummed to say we ended on a skunking (for now anyway).

Those are some gorgeous fish.  (So that's what a laker looks like.  I've never had the pleasure of catching one).

Cool ice ridges too.  I've seen smaller ones, but never any that big.

You'd enjoy fishing for them.  Challenging at times, other times they throw themselves at anything you send down the hole.
