So I just finished another chat session with Garmin Tech. My unit has a 4 pin and the ice ducer has a 4 pin. Physically it will plug in, however he said the operation frequency of the ice ducer is 150-240 kHz while the 73SV non chirp is 77-200 kHz. I asked what would happen if I plugged in the ice ducer and he said he wasn’t sure. So there is a chance it might actually still be a simple plug and play ...
At $50 I also wonder if this would be a better option? https://www.westmarine.com/buy/garmin--replacement-echo-series-dual-beam-transducer--13178298?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-Shopping_PLAs-_-13178298&cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-GSC+-+Vendors-_-13178298&product_id=13178298&adpos=1o1&creative=108421554244&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CjwKEAiA_9nFBRCsurz7y_Px8xoSJAAUqvKCgYR2yPfRDcezu5ekgeVtUQg-uZ9W-1zFgMIaonZgvhoCA5Tw_wcB
Will the 73sv Chirp work for ice fishing as well? Anyone try it?DTro, Can you post the URLs for the items you purchased to turn your's into an Ice Unit?
What has everyone done for a separate power cable from their boat? I'd like to simply be able to "pop" my unit off the boat and "pop" it into a flasher bag. I would like this, https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/536437#devices , bail mount on both the boat and in my ice bag. That way it is just a transfer of the main unit and start fishing. BUT, Garmin told me that there is no separate power cable to purchase, which I find hard to believe. They advised the only thing to purchase to make it an "ice machine" is their $400 Echo Ice Kit. That's about how much I spent on the entire unit, so I'm not likely going to do that. I'd appreciate any help on this as hard water season is approaching.
Funny that I just found this thread... I was just on the Garmin website chat feature a few hours ago trying to find out if there was a convenient and fairly inexpensive way to use my Garmin 93sv on the ice. I was told the ice fishing kit wouldn't fit it, but I guess I could buy the transducer and a power cable and rig up my own ice box for it.I love the 93sv. I also love my MarCum VX1P, but I wouldn't mind having the 93sv on the ice instead....Tight lines,Bob
I'm picking up my clam flasher bag tomorrow. I'll see how much extra space there is with my 73sv in there. I think the 93 might fit.
I ended up ordering a Garmin soft carry case $16, portable handle base $15, GT8HW transducer $100, 4 to 12 pin adaptor $20, power cable $22, and quick bail mount $25. IF it works I'll be able to quick detach from boat and quick attach to ice unit for about $200. If I like it enough I'll end up selling my Vex FL22. I'll post once I get it all set up and running.
I'm looking to buy the handle base and soft case for my echomap 43dv. I looked on Garmin's site and it doesn't say the echomap series is compatible with the case or base. Do you think the echomap's mounting base will fit right?
Angler, the below link is for their portable kit, which includes the base/handle and soft case. I believe the soft case is the same one they use for all their ice kits and portable units except for their new kit for 7 & 9" units. I think you'll be just fine with the soft case and the handle. The handle may not line up perfectly with your mount bolt holes, but sounds like mine won't either. Just mark and drill out new holes and you should be set. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/543361#devicesBelow is the bag I bought, but got it from Walmart on clearance for $16;https://www.gpsnation.com/garmin-portable-bag-replacement.html?fee=14&fep=2143&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsK7RBRDzARIsAM2pTZ_o1WsZeJQZ54LsZ3loH6s83876CESH2qY_tWGq_Rn2-N-uizmgcdMaArW7EALw_wcB
