HOPATCONG — Borough police and fire officials pulled an ice fisherman out of Lake Hopatcong after he fell through the ice on Sunday, said Hopatcong Police Lt. Thomas Kmetz.

The fisherman fell through the ice on Sunday at 2:18 p.m. at Crescent Cove. Borough Police Officer Edward Janosko and Hopatcong fireman Wade Crowley donned the police department’s ice rescue suits and jumped into the hole in the ice-covered lake to help keep the victim afloat.

The Hopatcong Fire Department responded and helped get the fisherman out of the water. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His condition was not available on Monday.

Kmetz warned that people should stay off the ice.
