What do you guys use for a leader on tip ups for pike and walleye? I've been using 25lb mono

I don't target either of those species, but I bet you can find more than enough info in these links.

I'm glad you mentioned that, as I was just about to mention trying spider wire. I did a lot of fly fishing for pike in Eastern Montana's streams while I lived over there, and absolutely swear by the stuff. Especially when fishing over pressured fish, I'd out-fish buddies who insisted on using mono or steel, as they tended to break the former and see the latter; but try as they might, I never had one chew through braided line, even after fighting and landing a stringer-full of fat pike. Good to know that it's more of a hindrance in the hard water world.

I've always wondered if floro is the best way to go on a tip up. Do you guys prefer it or do you feel it is mandatory

Depends on the water, clear water mono/flurocarbon , cloudy water steel or braid, I thought I found the perfect material in a fly shop, its leader material for "toothy creatures" I lost a few bigguns on it this year but had a ton of flags.
