ESKIMO SHARK Z71 WEIRD NOISE
« on: Feb 12, 2017, 02:56 PM »
Hey guys I need your help. I just bought a new Eskimo Shark Z71 71cc  ice auger. I started it for the first time and she took right off with no problems. Second pull and off she went. After letting it warm up for a bit. I pressed the throttle to test her out. Weird thing is when I let go of the throttle ,  as the flute comes to a stop the Auger makes a weird almost clutch like noise. Is that normal? I've also noticed oil/fuel mixture coming out of the  black decompression button. I was wonder if that was normal also. The auger is 3 days old.

I can take a stab at the noise. Was it a "ting ting ting" noise? Turn your idle screw counter clockwise 1/2 turn, that's just the auger idling high enough to "tick" the clutch. No clue about the leak.

it idles real nice. Starts easy. Its just when you let go of the throttle and the flute gets to the point ita stopping in makes a squeeling noise

I can't recommend anyone other than Eva as I've never dealt with another that knows as much as her.

If you are eager to use the auger ~ just know, it has a 5 year warranty.      ;)2

sounds like the clutch springs being new and a little stiff and keeping the shoes in the clutch drum engaged a little.maybe due to idle just a tad high.these clutches need some use to break them in.i get a  little squeal when installing new mini bike clutches on minis I build too. till the springs/shoes break in .same clutch design basically on a auger.just a guess tho. eskimo  comes with a 5 year warranty anyways.

I agree with DR.SPECKLER when I first bought my Z71 the clutch would stick and squeal a bit. Took almost the whole season to start running right. as for oil coming from the decompression valve I had the same problem. My fix was not using premium fuel and switching to a synthetic oil mix either amsoil sabre or opti-2. One thing I would highly recommend is using aspen fuel or any other small engine fuel with out ethanol. Regular gas from the pumps has ethanol and just reeks havoc on small engines. Here's the difference after 4 years of using gas with ethanol.
