Miss Bay report 1/16/17
« on: Jan 17, 2017, 12:44 AM »
If you havent heard, we had a drunk that ended up going through the ice up here this past weekend. He was so drunk he didn't even know he drove out on the lake. Luckily, he made it out and walked to border for help, greeted by cuffs and a hefty fine.  We have been seeing alot of the seasonal out-of-state folks up this way gregariously heading to shipyard ready to drive out. Most are stopping by Martins Store where they are being forewarned.

Today the wind was vicious and water dirty from the previous rain and warm up. In the 4hrs I was out the ice heaved up by shipyard launch over 2ft, it was un real! Had a few flag trips that could have been wind or perch, no luck jigging, and only 3 people out there today. The crack this year is going from the Tyler Place jetty north west toward Canada. This may change with this weeks weather as another small crack opened up off the ship yard launch today.

We fished st. a bay Saturday.  Whole bay was all walkers and a few atv's.  7" of ice or so, and had someone drive out past us.  Could literally feel the ice moving up and down from the wave they were creating.  Parked their rig and proceeded to drill holes all around their rig haha.  Best part is this was all 200' yards from the access.  I guess just to far to walk for some . . . .

Ha..about 20 years ago i took my gf now wife on a trip
To the conn. lakes to show her what this ice fishing thing
Was all about.we were on the lake when two guys in a
3/4 ton pu.with about a cord of wood in the back came
Bombing out on the ice. They stopped about 50 yrds
From us and the guy rolled down the window and shouted
To me ..How thicks the ice??"  ...i motioned with my thumb
And index finger to a length of about 2 inches. ;)
Those looks on their faces was priceless..then they smiled
Cause they realized i was kidding.    ;D

Different one.  Over on the east shore.

lol that's great Varmonter, did the truck doors slowly open up? haha

Couple years back I watched a car go across the sandbar on 6" of ice.  The driver and passenger both kept their doors open, with one foot out.  If your that nervous you shouldn't be driving on!

I'm heading up the end of the month  to give the  Miss Bay a shot , I fish it all the time when the water is soft . I see the temps are getting a little warmer these days but at least its still pretty cool at night.

I think this hole's too small

Yea temps are going to hurt a little..but there is enough ice that will sustain. The extended forecast looks more promising. As long as the pressure crack stays where it is access to most of the bay will be good. Give a shout when you come up and I'll try to help put you on fish, It's my backdoor water

We had a good 8inches of ice , caught some perch and pike and somebody's friendly black lab kept us company.

And she ate all the dead bait in my sled and around the holes! She was super friendly but I was scrambling to keep her away from auger blades, hooks, and lures!

Looks like a good stretch of cold weather coming.  Things should be good and hardened up again by then.

The perch bite was a little slower today, but we did get on some  mid 30inch pike today . Looks like we still have a good 8inches of ice.  The winds was a pain in the rear today,  but still a good day.
