I am usually a trout snob but my buddies prefer bass and pike so I try to accommodate them when we meet up. We dedicated this weekend to the toothy critters and decided to soak some suckers and big dead goldies. I honed my conversational and jigging skills to while away the hours. Long story short, the gang left the ice early but I decided to wait for the late afternoon bite. Good choice. She was 39 inches long and a little over 15 pounds and was released in good shape.I had to let her run 3 times to tire her so I could get her through the 7 and a half inch ION X hole.I love that auger except for that fact.

Nice fish Manny. It was frustrating Sunday, but that is one hell of a way to make up for it. I had a good day where I was, and just enjoyed 3 jumbo perch for dinner. Next time, we should try to get the big pike and big perch at the same time.

No chance that I will forget about trout especially since I started jigging for them. I do like to switch up target species though and today will make the transition days easier.I appreciate the kind words.

You don't get many on Champlain like that. Its all about the numbers up there. A lot of fish 6 to 11 pounds. but if you hit it right you can ice 30 or more in a day. Nothing wrong with that LOL. I'm going to keep hitting the spot in Southern VT I've been trying. I got a feeling it's going to give me a Goliath eventually

I feel like that is a good pike regardless of where it was caught!

Credibility in fishing should be measured by a few more parameters than just the catching...that said I don't think you ever lost any.
