New to Shanty
« on: Jan 08, 2017, 08:27 AM »
Lived in RI my whole life. I live in Narragansett and I'm looking for some safe ice to fish in northern RI.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Tight lines

Welcome! Don't assume that you will find "safe" ice anywhere in RI.  It could definitely be a while for lots of our favorite spots.  If you are looking to get out and ice fish, plan on traveling. Look at the Berkshires, CT, and Central MA. The Massachusetts Board (and  to a lesser extent the Connecticut one)  are more active than the Rhode Island one.  I find that overall the Rhode Island guys are more laid-back and maybe friendlier, but there is a lot more general information from day to day on the Massachusetts Board. Best of luck and tight lines!

Oh, and just to clarify my previous statement, there are tons of friendly people on the MA and CT boards also. It's just that people can be understandably tight-lipped about their home waters  ;D
